This is an Anglo-Scandinavian Belt end which saw use
between c.AD 750 - 950.
It is based on a find listed on the Portable Antiquities
Scheme, ID YORYM-B1D77B and is classified as an A1avii or
'Wooperton' type strap end. Quite a few similar (in fact
nearly identical) strap ends have been found, mainly in the
north of the UK, suggesting that they were produced either
in one workshop or using moulds impressed from one
original model.
It is in Trewhiddle style with interlaced beasts pictured in the
central panel and a moulded zoomorphic beast head as the
terminal.
Cast in brass using lost wax casting process, original master
carved and cast by Stuart Makin of Jackhammer Forge.
The strap end comes supplied with rivets and washer to fix it
to your belt.
